PVSC’s public meetings are currently held in person without an online participation option. This makes it difficult for many residents—including workers, parents, caregivers, elders, people with disabilities, and those without reliable transportation—to attend and speak.
Decisions made by PVSC directly affect the health, environment, and quality of life of Ironbound residents and other overburdened communities. The people most affected deserve meaningful access to these public meetings.
Join community members at the September 17 PVSC Board Meeting to ask PVSC to restore online participation and make its meetings accessible to everyone.

PVSC Background Information
The Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (PVSC) operates a major wastewater treatment facility on Wilson Avenue in Newark’s Ironbound neighborhood. The facility serves dozens of municipalities, but the pollution and health burdens created by its operations are concentrated in Newark.
PVSC recently approved a $180 million gas-fired backup power plant despite hours of public opposition, more than 1,000 letters, and resolutions opposing the project from Newark and other municipalities. Once built, it would become the fourth gas-burning power plant in the Ironbound, an already overburdened community surrounded by industrial facilities, truck traffic, and New Jersey’s largest trash incinerator.
Ironbound residents are continuing to fight the project and demand clean energy alternatives! Because PVSC’s decisions directly affect our health and environment, residents must have meaningful access to its public meetings, including the ability to attend and comment online.
