For too long, the Ironbound has been deemed a Sacrifice Zone, a place where profits matter more than the health and well-being of people – Black and Brown people. Since our founding 50 years ago, ICC has led the fight against the environmental injustices that have poisoned our community.

ICC has worked non-stop to correct the devastation we have faced due to corporate apathy and governmental oversight failure, from the Dioxin crisis in the 70s through the contaminated land sites of the 80s, to our decades long fight against the Covanta garbage incinerator fight. After a decade long fight, ICC, along with our environmental justice partners, helped to pass the strongest environmental justice cumulative impacts law in the country.
