The vision is for every child, youth, and family in Essex County and New Jersey to have equitable access to quality education, affordable housing, economic opportunities, and healthy communities. We are grateful for our continued partnership with the Schumann Fund for New Jersey. At the Schumann Fund for New Jersey, the mission is to empower low-income children, families, and communities of color by supporting non-profits that drive racial and economic equity. This is why they are CHANGEMAKERS. We are honored to celebrate them and the Victoria Foundation on Thursday, November 14th. We hope you can join us celebrate change! More honorees to come... |

A Successful Summer for Youth Workforce Development in Our Community! The Youth Inclusion Initiative (YII) program was an exceptional experience for the eight youth who participated. These young individuals engaged in a transformative journey that blended hands-on environmental stewardship with personal and professional development. During this 6-week journey, the youth had the unique opportunity to travel across New Jersey, exploring diverse environmental sites and engaging in hands-on activities that broadened their understanding of environmental conservation. The program's goal extended beyond just educating the participants about the environment; it also aimed to help them evaluate whether a career in this field was something they would want to pursue. From touring a trout hatchery to learning about water quality and participating in historic preservation efforts, these experiences offered the youth a comprehensive view of potential career paths while equipping them with valuable skills. Through their involvement in the community project at ICC's Down Bottom Farm, they gained practical skills in cultivating the soil and learned the importance of civic engagement and environmental advocacy. The professional development days provided them with essential job readiness skills, including resume-building and interview techniques, ensuring they are well-prepared for future career opportunities. As a result, these youth emerged from the program with a renewed sense of purpose and the tools necessary to become proactive agents of positive change in their communities. |
